Incorporated in February, 1907, Cathlamet is the county seat, the largest and only incorporated city in the county. The unique history of this riverside town goes back to the mid 1840s when a trader name James Birnie came to the area and build a home at the site where now Cathlamet sits. Soon after many other farmers, fisherman and loggers came to the area and a new town was born.
