St. Helens), Castle Rock is 123 miles south of Seattle and 63 miles north of Portland, OR.

The city was founded approximately in the mid 1880s by a settler name William Huntington who had been living in the area since the 1850s, and the city was incorporated in 1890. This tight and neat community is the home of approximately 2,150 residents who are proud to call Castle Rock their home.

Castle Rock primary location is in the bend of the Cowlitz River, between the river and the western side of interstate I-5. Since the eruption of the historic volcano Mt. Each summer, thousands of tourist pass through on their way to visit and experience first hand the truly devastating dimention of the eruption and also witness the amazingly fast recovery of the area during the last two decades.

According to researchers the city was name after a huge (almost 200 feet) rock that resembles the look of a castle and was used in the early 1800s as a landmark by local Native Americans, early fur traders and settlers. The rock is located just south of the city along Huntington Avenue. For images of the city click the following link, Castle Rock Images.
